Creating harmony, simplicity and peace in the landscape......

"Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help.

Gardening is an instrument of grace. "

About Jan Johnsen

Hi Everyone!
Thank You for Visiting - Why I Blog
I blog because I want to share my heartfelt conviction that gardens and landscapes are a very important part of a fulfilled life.

And so to further that end, I highlight cool ideas, plants, and gardens that will inspire you to create your own magical outdoor space.

It is a spectacular feeling to know that someone in Stavanger, Norway or Athens, Greece or Adelaide, Australia or Hinsdale, Illinois is reading my words....I take that honor very seriously.

I live north of New York City...born and bred in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan....a 'kid from the boroughs'.

I have been in the landscape design, planning and teaching profession for 40 years. I am an engaging and popular speaker and present Powerpoint talks often to professional groups, at meetings and to garden clubs.  Please feel free to contact me. I write articles, books and teach...communication with others is my aim.

People often ask me how I get the ideas for my blog entries and I must admit that I don't know. I frequently wake up and my mind has a germ of an idea in it ...as I sit down to write, it unfolds and voila! the dream is reality.

I was born in a Rabbit Year.
People born in the year of the Rabbit like the following:

Color : Pale Green
Gems : Crystal, Emerald, Pearl
Gifts: CD, fine wine, easel, lyrics books
Pastimes: Writing poetry, hiking, planting gardens, chatting with friends [and writing blog posts]
Rabbits love to learn about different cultures.
Rabbits spend a lot of their lifetimes trying to find inner peace. [lifetimes?]
They like to release their creative energies with such things as photography.

Well - that about sums me up.

I point my camera lens at nature's glories and man's creativity. I hope, through this blog, you are inspired by the simple, the rustic, the idea and the dream.
