'Wayne's World' White Baptisia - A Great Deer resistant, Native Flower!
Another native variety is Baptisia alba var. alba or thick pod wild indigo. It is easily recognizable due to it's large black pendant seed pods. It grows to 3-4' tall. Best in deep, neutral to acid soils.
Recently Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery introduced Baptisia alba var. alba 'Wayne's World' that he calls 'Wayne's World' Redneck Lupine. It is a more reliable bloomer and forms a full, upright, deer-resistant clump to 4' tall.
In May and June it is topped with 18" long spikes of white flowers that stand out against long, deep purple stems and blue-green foliage. A vigorous grower, it looks fresh even in drought conditions. Zone: 4-8
You can plant 'Wayne's World' White False Indigo in a wildflower garden, in a perennial bed or by the seashore...It is a great native, butterfly attractor that is outstanding in a mixed bed.
A word of caution : it sets out a deep taproot so it is not easily moved!
