Storm King Art Center - Serenity in the Landscape
Storm King Art Center by Jerry L. Thompson |
Considered one of the world’s foremost sculpture parks, the Storm King Art Center features 100 works of art across 500 acres in the Hudson Valley of New York.
Large, abstract works frame and transform the landscape:
Co-founder H. Peter Stern quoted Isamu Noguchi -
“Noguchi says that there are two ways of proceeding as a sculptor.
One is to plan what you’re going to do and then do it. The other is to create, and then see what you have done. Noguchi puts himself in the second category as an artist, and I’d say that’s the way we have created the art center.” If you can - pack a picnic and go there this summer or fall. A tram transports you around and you can get on and off as much as you want. There is also a museum and book store. Not free - Admission fee. |
Storm King is a remarkable garden
ReplyDeleteAmy, I agree!
DeleteThese are examples of letting your gardens work for you and not the other way around. I would love to get more involved with the landscape around my home. These pictures are truly incredible, I would very much like to visit them one day.

Cynthia Rhose, we respond to the land and vice versa...this symbiotic relationship has been forgotten.
